zoe's dream world :: my friend zoe posted these remarkable, dream-like short videos on her facebook page earlier this week. i love how they seem to create their own magical little world, where all the rules are strangely warped. they really do seem to represent some enchanted dreamscape, with visions beautiful and terrifying, all of which make sense in their own context.
aime come moi :: i take a perverse sort of pride in being a big supporter of the local economy. my tastes have never really run towards mass fashion and years ago, when i found this little gem of a store on mont-royal, big stores and i parted ways forever. aime come moi has carved a place for itself in my heart by consistently offering an outlet for a variety of local designers to showcase their sartorial wares. [i've also always loved the fact that the shop is the first one i ever saw to organise its clothing by colour, which i find far more aesthetically pleasing than organising by style.]
when we filmed conversion, every scrap of clothing that i wear is canadian designed and the vast majority comes from this unassuming little store. over the years they've been responsible for increasing the profile of designers like kollontai, annie 50 , dinh ba and slak, all of whom now have their own following. [links for each of these designers are on my permanent list of links on the right.] the shop has always featured designs produced exclusively for them, but most recently, the team of designers for the shop itself have truly excelled. much of the time i lived in toronto, i would come back to montreal to do the bulk of my clothes-shopping, because it's worth the trip.

and that's a recap of what made this week what it was, which was, if i do say so, pretty darn good. throw in our monthly dj night at cagibi, a few pending developments with conversion and you have yourself a pretty entertaining mix.
for the coming week, i'm looking forward to another dj set, this time at retro-goth night kill me now, in the company of dj tyg and mr. dna. these parties have proven to be a blast of old school fun, so i'm happy to be cracking out those morose classics and a ton of black eyeliner. come dancing with the children of the night, april 9th at cabaret playhouse.
i'm also hoping that this will be the week that someone finally starts talking about issues in the canadian election, rather than trying to interest us all in their collective toenail clippings. well, i hold out hope, but it's a faint hope, you understand. i always have this idea that eventually, someone who's risen to a position of power will start to treat us all like adults. i suppose they'll do that as soon as the juvenile fear-mongering about their opponents ceases to work.
