When I arrived at my hotel (Sheraton on the Park) my room wasn’t ready so I went shopping! I went to Zara of course. I bought 2 tops. (Pictures of my tops will follow in coming posts). It was so busy inside. Crazy women everywhere grabbing at leopard print clothing. Lines to try on clothes were long, lines to the register were longer! I was in there for about an hour! When I left the store at about 12.30pm there was a line waiting to get in.
I am scared about the Melbourne store opening soon but I will need to go again!!
After shopping I went to Mamak for some Malaysian food. It was AMAZING!! I had researched and found this was a pretty good place to try.
I was so impressed and asked if they would come to Melbourne. Pleaseeee!!?
I realise I ordered a lot but it is because I didn’t know when I would be going back.
I had a tea tarik - this was so sweet and delicious!
The nasi lemak was one of the best I have had in Australia! I LOVED it. Usually the meat would be fatty and I would cut bits off and the curry would be so oily I would be left feeling sick. This however was just perfect.
The roti cenai was perfect and fresh.
Finally I had the chicken satay. This wasn’t so great just because I have had a lot of satay in my time (Singapore and Malaysia) and I know a good satay when I eat it. This wasn’t authentic enough for me. Nice but nothing can compare to Singaporean food.
That night I went out with friends to a bar and then dancing. It was great to catch up.
The next day my friend and I caught a bus out to Balmain. We went to Adriano Zumbo and got cakes and macarons.
Some of the flavours I ate were: Japanese Mayo (this was EXACTLY like it, I loved this one), Satay, Pandan, Lychee Bubble Tea, Chestnut & Mint, Vanilla and one called Samsung Honeycomb which I thought sounded strange but they say that Samsung sponsor it!
My faves were Vanilla, Pandan, Japanese Mayo and Chestnut & Mint.
After we bought these we went to Kazbah for breakfast. I got the breakfast tagine and my friend got corn fritters. We were both impressed by our choices. Mine was a little more spicy than I would have hoped for. Great atmosphere.
For dinner we went to Wildfire. This is opposite the Opera House and looks out over the water. It is a great location and atmosphere. Great cocktails and fantastic bread. We had bread with roasted vine ripened tomato, goat’s curd and fresh herbs (A+), Steak with sides of Baked cabbage, smokehouse bacon and potato gratin and Portobello mushrooms with garlic, crème fraiche, lemon and fresh tarragon. For dessert we had a bombe Alaska.
Meal was good. I'd go back but not before I had tried other places in Sydney.
We then left the restaurant into the freezing night!! and went to Opera Bar. We saw Paulini (from Australian Idol) in the bathrooms. She was hot and spent quite a long time looking at her hair. I guess when you are famous you have to make sure you look good.
That is me below with my new bright pink Zara top. It has cute sleeves. I didn't put many food pics up because it was just steak really.
As you can see I ate a lot on this trip. My friend and I then went to Bungalow 8 where I had oysters Thai Patrick! They were pretty much the same as oysters kilpatrick but with a few additional ingredients: chilli, coriander and ginger. My friend had calamari. This was a great place to unwind and relax by the water. Nice for a Sunday morning.
Later we made our way to The Westin for Afternoon Tea. The theme this month was: The Princess and the Pea. It was good but nothing to write home about. I have had much better but for a basic Afternoon Tea it was nice.
At this stage my credit card was maxed out and we were on our way home to cold Melbourne.
