Ryan Gosling on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" in Balenciaga

ryan gosling / ph: theo wango, getty images via justjared

man of the moment, mr. ryan gosling, was on "late night with jimmy fallon" in new york city on wednesday. he brought along his dog "george", stylishly dressed with one red sock. word on the street is that mr. gosling wore a black suit from balenciaga. it seemed to fit him well, but i am really more excited about his beautiful black suede slip-ons, the skull print t-shirt and the right amount of mankle.

turns out, mr gosling wore a t-shirt from musician steve earle's "copperhead road" album. interesting choice, perhaps he is a fan of earle's. love the pairing of the band t-shirt with the classic black suit. and classic clean cut shoes of course.

if i can suggest alternatives for mr gosling, the grey knitwear from markus lupfer with sequinned skull feature should work well with his attire. or the classic navy blue skull print t-shirt from alexander mcqueen? finish off with the delectable lui morais 14k gold skull bracelet and we'll have a winner.

A little sale shopping...

i had some time off from work yesterday, and it so happened to be the first day of the harvey nichols summer sale in london. well i leave you to decide if i planned my leave that way. i bought two items from the sale, both from alexander mcqueen fall winter 2010. the above wool jacket was the only piece on the rail, and i am so happy that it fitted me perfectly.

the jacket featured chain mail prints, which was featured in several pieces from the fall winter 2010 show. my casual pair of chinos probably doesn't go with the gorgeous jacket, i'll most likely wear it with a smarter pair of trousers. i also bought a cashmere trompe-l'œil knitwear from the same collection. as both were from two seasons ago, they were actually further reduced, coupled with the extra 10% off for the first four days of sale, both pieces were about 75% off. great reductions is one thing, i really do love, and feel there's longevity in both pieces.

so it's a great buy (i do anything to convince myself).

alexander mcqueen fall winter 2010 / gq.com

even more poignant, as this was lee mcqueen's very last menswear collection.

i then went from knightsbridge to nottinghill for a little business visit. since matchesfashion is around the corner, i decided to drop in for a look see too. and when they laid out the shoes nicely like that, i feel very obligated to try them on. i was deciding between the classic lanvin metallic toe-cap sneakers, or the somewhat sportier balenciaga hi-tops. i decided to go with first instinct, and picked the balenciaga shoes.

those were my blue suede pierre hardy shoes in the background...

nice? these were actually very light and comfortable. it was the first shoe i picked up, so i trusted my instinct. the shoes are also available online at matchesfashion.com, as well as mrporter.com.

speaking of mrporter.com, their international sales start today!!

Cameron Silver at "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" Costume Institute Gala in Alexander McQueen

cameron silver / ph: catherine kallon, redcarpet-fashionawards

cameron silver, owner of vintage clothing boutique decades inc, attended monday's costume institute gala in new york city. like many of the attendees, he also wore alexander mcqueen to honor the late designer. i love the beautiful detailings on the jacket, especially the pop of red. can't decide if this is more mozart or military band, but it's a great choice for this occasion.

many thanks to catherine at redcarpet-fashionawards.com for the exclusive pics. she was in new york for the event, and got to spend time with mr silver. she what! click here to read more about her experiences.

Hamish Bowles at "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" Costume Institute Gala in Alexander McQueen and Christian Louboutin

monday evening's metball gala celebrated the works of the late alexander mcqueen, and many female attendees arrived at the event in some of his finest creations. while most guys were in the standard black tux, vogue editor hamish bowles arrived in the above ensemble from alexander mcqueen fall winter 2006. i really like the tartan kimono, the floral detailings looked amazing. not sure about the fitted tartan trousers, nor the christian louboutin "mikaraja" shoes. it's like scotland meets japan meets india. a little too busy for me, but hey he looked like he had bundles of fun, so why not.

Karl Lagerfeld at "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" Costume Institute Gala in Tom Ford

the who's who of society all congregated at the met ball in new york on monday evening. while most guys attended in the standard black tux, a few attendees decided to do something different. karl lagerfeld attended the event with blake lively (in chanel couture), and himself wore a tuxedo jacket from tom ford spring summer 2011. i like the black and white floral prints, kinda matches his hair and black sunnies, but those signature tom ford gargantuan lapels are just too severe.

Kurt Hummel on Glee in...

uk is way behind on the glee calendar. we've only just started season 2 this year, but monday nights will never be the same again. yesterday saw the screening of episode 4: "sing!", or simply the duets episode. kurt wore a few interesting outfits, including the above sweater with the hand painted palms. is that from alexander mcqueen spring summer 2010? if so, man they wear nice things in mckinley high.

love that buttoned up white shirt, makes all the difference. effort.

alexander mcqueen spring summer 2o10 / ph: alexander mcqueen

and erm, doesn't the model above resemble kurt's dad in glee??

in the opening scenes, kurt wore a green/orange tartan shirt with studded shoulder detailings. i really couldn't remember if i saw that in h&m, does look a little gi-ven-chic doesn't it?

Sale shopping at Alexander Mcqueen

last weekend during the frantic and manic boxing day sales, i managed to pick up two items from alexander mcqueen. i've decided not to go for statement pieces, but spending money on items that will give me more wear and mileage over the years. i went for the above cashmere/wool henley top, simple but beautifully made. the fabric is soft as can be. a wardrobe classic/staple, i love.

alexander mcqueen fall winter 2009 / gq.com

the henley top also made a "blink and you might missed it" appearance in the alexander mcqueen fall winter 2009 show.

and i might need that leather torso piece as i appear to have a saggy moob moment above. err, no really no. i also bought the navy blue shirt/sweater 2 in 1 combo piece. i love pieces like that, i actually go round collecting pieces like these. it's great for lazy days, i can put on a t-shirt underneath and head to work. again a really nice piece that will give me lots of mileage over the years.

probably overused the term, but investment pieces these really are.

my outfit for the little shopping weekend: burberry prorsum cashmere/wool khaki military knit, green polo ralph lauren shirt, cheap monday indigo denims, brown christophe lemaire shearling lined boots, purple paul smith scarf and smelling of cire trudon 'ernesto'.
