Meanwhile in Queens...

CitiField

While most of the American soccersphere was focused on a football stadium in Detroit Rock City last night, 39,000 + made their way to a baseball stadium in Queens to watch soccer. Only in America y'all.

Citi Field, home of the NY Mets, made its soccer debut last night when Greece met Ecuador in a 1-1 draw. It's almost always awkward when a soccer pitch is placed over a baseball diamond but this wasn't too bad. Or at least it wasn't as bad as what the Wizards had to deal with in CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Get used to seeing it though as you're going to see soccer at Citi again very soon.

Holden's Houston Homecoming (Maybe)

stu

The talk is that the Dynamo are trying to line up a friendly with Stuart Holden's Bolton Wanderers in Houston this summer. I like the idea, lets the dude get some hometown shine for a couple of days.

I kind of wish there was a a whole series of these: Run-DMB's Hannover in Indianapolis, Herculez Gomez's Pachuca in Las Vegas, Jay DeMerit's Whitecaps playing in Green Bay etc. Hell, Aston Villa would have to do a whole damn tour of the country for Bradley, Lichaj, Freidel and Guzan.

It would actually be pretty cool to have a camera follow Stu around during his homecoming. Kinda see what it's like to train & travel with an EPL squad, see his old stomping grounds, meet the family and see him catch up with his old teammates. @JasonETProducer, make it so.

The Following Song Will be Banned From American Airwaves on Feb. 9th

It's on y'all: the long-awaited (not really) U.S. v. Egypt Confederations Cup rematch in Cairo February 9th. Expect another young American squad and 1000 stories warning of the potential for something bad to happen...like shark attacks, forced-looking pictures of the Yanks out front the pyramids and early-80's electro jams on blast!

VIDEO: Galaxy v. Newcastle Jets

Since I know you weren't up watching this live a t 3:30am, here's the highlights from last night's LA exhibition down in Australia. Nice turnout, a win for the hosts and a paid vacation to somewhere warm for the Galaxy. I think this is what they call a "win-win" (even though someone lost).
