My new shoes: Acne Studios mission polish lace-ups

i previously featured these acne studio shoes back in june. when i saw that they were reduced by 70%, i had to get them. the shoes were polished to a high shine, and contrasted with distressed edges where loose treads seem to run:

i love the quirky detailings. loving acne shoes at the moment, there's a pair of zig zac loafers on my wishlist too. when the moment of weakness arise, i know the shoes fit true to size!

love the shoes. do wish that there is more width so the tongue of the shoes could be completely covered up. slight irk, but i can live with it. happy #shoesday.

My new shoes: Mr. Hare Onyx wholecut lace-ups

i met the wonderful mr. hare last week and bought my third pair of mr. hare shoes: the onyx wholecut laceups. as the name suggests, the upper part of the shoe is cut from one piece of leather, thus giving it a really smooth and clean architectural silhouette. the shoes featured an unusual shape at the front: mr. hare explained that the shoes were designed after jay jopling's white cube gallery, and the slightly raised front mimics the cubes, lending it a somewhat futuristic and artistic edge.

needless to say, i love the shoes. a simple pair of black shoes made interesting. it's perfect for the office. really loving the slick high shine finish.

Prada customised camouflage backpack

i bought the prada customised backpack a while back, but finally took delivery last weekend. in hindsight, i feel that the letters are a little too big, perhaps i should have just gone with one letter. if you are not aware, prada offers a service where on a selection of their classic bags, customers can get their initials sewn on. i allowed myself this little treat since i don't have a backpack. i wanted one for travelling purposes, and felt this would be perfect. it's not that in-your-face and recognisably prada that i might fear being robbed, but also stylish enough and packed full of intricate details.

the fabric is supposedly nylon, but it feels soft and almost silky. hardware are polished and discreetly logo-ed. i feel this is a great example of turning streetwear luxe. i love it, can't wait to start using it.

A little sale shopping...

i had some time off from work yesterday, and it so happened to be the first day of the harvey nichols summer sale in london. well i leave you to decide if i planned my leave that way. i bought two items from the sale, both from alexander mcqueen fall winter 2010. the above wool jacket was the only piece on the rail, and i am so happy that it fitted me perfectly.

the jacket featured chain mail prints, which was featured in several pieces from the fall winter 2010 show. my casual pair of chinos probably doesn't go with the gorgeous jacket, i'll most likely wear it with a smarter pair of trousers. i also bought a cashmere trompe-l'œil knitwear from the same collection. as both were from two seasons ago, they were actually further reduced, coupled with the extra 10% off for the first four days of sale, both pieces were about 75% off. great reductions is one thing, i really do love, and feel there's longevity in both pieces.

so it's a great buy (i do anything to convince myself).

i then went from knightsbridge to nottinghill for a little business visit. since matchesfashion is around the corner, i decided to drop in for a look see too. and when they laid out the shoes nicely like that, i feel very obligated to try them on. i was deciding between the classic lanvin metallic toe-cap sneakers, or the somewhat sportier balenciaga hi-tops. i decided to go with first instinct, and picked the balenciaga shoes.

nice? these were actually very light and comfortable. it was the first shoe i picked up, so i trusted my instinct. the shoes are also available online at matchesfashion.com, as well as mrporter.com.

A little sale shopping...

Topman Teenage Cancer Trust black doodle 50's classic sunglasses

was supposed to shop for a bow tie last weekend, but i ended up buying four pairs of shorts, a t-shirt, a baseball cap and a pair of shades. basically things for my upcoming holiday. the shades were released last month as part of a charity project, so i am quite glad i managed to find one still. it only retails for £16, but £5 from every sale go towards the teenage cancer trust. it fits me just fine, and it's great for the upcoming beach holiday.

Summer hats

london was exceptionally sunny (well, for april) last weekend. went for a walk with my friend, but felt something was missing. so i popped into zara and added the above strawhat to my outfit. the beauty of high street shops, i can just walk in and do something impromptu.

my first choice was this amazing (well, to me) flatcap, but my friend was a little stunned by my choice, and politely said "well it doesn't quite go with your outfit today". heck i bought it anyways! i love it, just need to think about how to wear it, probably keep my outfit plain.

A little customisation

bought my ipad2 two weeks ago, and finally i decided on the cover. i wanted a slipcase, and something classic that will age beautifully with time. i bought the above dark brown colored calf leather case from london based stationery company, noble macmillan. i love the dark chocolatey brown, and it came with the option of having my initials hot stamped in gold.

i absolutely love it. if you are keen, you can order online from noble macmillan. there's a good selection of leather products for customisation. i am already lusting for the business card holders.

besides the ipad case, i also bought the above lizard skin wallet from anya hindmarch. they opened a pop-up shop at london's selfridges, and in a somewhat impulse state i ordered the wallet. frankly it was love at first sight. the color is so so beautiful in that old school green, which i don't think many do it anymore. the glossy lizard skin is just sublime. it is a little pricey, but considering i don't really have a wallet (i've been getting by with my dunhill croc case...) this is a good investment to last me for years.

besides the gorgeous skin and color, i was really attracted to the fact that there was no visible branding by anya hindmarch. as part of the 'bespoke' range, they deliberately left the wallet blank so we can add messages or initials on the wallet. i really really love the customisation option, and partly swayed by the below picture which i saw from their website:

i am definitely going back to add a hand written message. they will prepare a mould and stamp the message on the wallet. the difficult bit now, is to think of a nice, meaningful, personal yet succinct message. "ooooh i want one of those" doesn't quite cut it.

the customised option is very addictive with various products and thousands of possibilities. it's a very clever way for anya hindmarch to enter the menswear accessories market. in an era where (luxury) products are getting more and more homogenised, this is a nice way of saying let's go back to basics, this is how they do luxury in the past. i don't think this will be my last piece of "bespoke" from anya hindmarch.

although billed as "bespoke", i am a little hesitant to use that term since i did not get to choose the skin, the lining and design. it's more "made-to-measure" in tailoring terms. anyway, every piece from anya hindmarch's "bespoke" range came with a lucky penny. i love personal touches like that. "find a penny pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck."
