Sir Ranulph Fiennes & Rupert Pennefather for Alfred Dunhill Fall Winter 2011 campaign

following on last season's "voice" campaign, alfred dunhill selected three individuals who all excelled in their own fields for the brand's fall winter 2011 campaign. i really love last season's campaign with violin virtuoso charlie siem and author harland miller, and was looking forward to see who they would introduce for fall winter 2011. in line with the previous campaign, these three guys fall into different age brackets. i love the diversity in casting, proving that true style is ageless. i think it would be most difficult to cast the youngest member, to select someone fresh yet remarkable and light years ahead of their peers in terms of acheivement.

and that person, is ballet dancer rupert pennefather.

recently turned 30, rupert pennefather at the age of 27 became the principal dancer with the royal ballet company, the resident ballet company of london's royal opera house. great casting and association from dunhill, but i can't help feel that mr. pennefather looked somewhat subdued in the pictures. great portrait from photographer david sims, but i wished he would break into a dance. mr. pennefather was impeccably styled in an alpaca wool coat in fawn.

alfred dunhill's fall winter 2011 collection was about exploration. beautiful arctic parkas with gorgeous fur hoods were presented, and who better to front the campaign than the world's greatest living explorer, sir ranulph fiennes?

it's such a beautiful portrait, and personally my favourite amongst the three gentlemen selected to front the campaign. definitely one i would invite to my imaginary dinner party, just think the amazing stories he would tell. aged 67 and third cousins to actors joseph and ralph fiennes, sir ranulph twisleton-wykeham-fiennes was the first person to visit both the north and south poles. (hurray wikipedia!) extraordinary achievements and such an inspirational figure, the strings dunhill pulled to land mr fiennes for their campaign.

Versace Fall Winter 2011 ad campaign

i really love these shots from versace's fall winter 2011 ad campaign. the background is absolutely gorgeous, loving the gradient of yellow against the blue skies. honestly, the images that captivated me were the ones from the womenswear campaign, which is my favourite so far this season. the same gorgeous background really complimented the stunning jewellery and gold medusa pieces. the campaign was shot by mert alas & marcus piggott, and model sean o'pry fronts the menswear ad. great casting, and i think the clothes featured look much better than on the runway. you need attitude for versace, which i feel is missing from the runway, but sean is working it here.

i am really looking forward to the upcoming versace x h&m collaboration. donatella versace said in an interview that it will consists of iconic pieces and classic moments. i want lots of medusa for their menswear please! i really want to see more pics, especially since the campaign images here for mainline versace looked so good.

jimmy choo is reintroducing their menswear collection for fall winter 2011. one of my favourite models ben hill fronts the campaign, alongside brazilian supermodel raquel zimmerman. in a recent interview with founder tamara mellon, a question was asked "who is the jimmy choo man?", to which she replied "the man on the arm of a jimmy choo woman". so is mr. ben hills a jimmy choo man? i think so, i feel it's a great casting. shot on location at new york's waldorf astoria, the campaign is giving me a little versace vibe. perhaps it's that 90's "madonna for versace" hair on ms zimmerman, or that steven meisel lensed both campaigns.

and definitely definitely loving that pair of st james monk strap shoes. it's a choo in.

Loewe Menswear Fall Winter 2011

loving the campaign shots for loewe menswear fall winter 2011. lensed by the legendary duo mert alas and marcus piggott, the images evoked a movie like quality, reminiscent of auteur wong kar-wai's gorgeous movies and christopher doyle's cinematography, where each and every prop, turn and mood forms a longingly beautiful frame. just as hotels play an important role in wong's movies, the campaign was shot at the ritz hotel in madrid, a century-old landmark where hollywood star ava gardner would drink with ernest hemingway in the fifties and sixties.

especially loving the light-leaks, some considered flaws but i so so love and yet to master. and of course the classic gold suede amazona weekender, which makes a return to their campaigns every now and again.

if this is an art house vehicle directed by mert alas and marcus piggott, and styled by katie grand, then the movie would star spanish heart throb andres velencoso segura and the kooky maria carla boscono. love the gorgeous colors, one of my favourite campaigns to date. makes me want to check-in at the ritz in madrid now, with the loewe amazona in tow.

TOBEY MAGUIRE FOR PRADA MENSWEAR FALL WINTER 2011

prada unveiled their new fall winter 2011 menswear campaign today. ex-spiderman star tobey maguire was featured in the campaign. casting wise, i really like it but also thought it was a little strange. mr. maguire is much more in line with prada's image than say, the skinny pale models that graced their campaigns for several seasons. strange, because i am not feeling anything to be honest. it's like a non-event really. there were quite a few interesting pieces from this collection, but not sure why the rather simple styling above.

i do love the photography though. the soft focus and subtle light leaks which i've been trying to master for, like forever. no surprise that these were lensed by one of my favourite photographers, mr david sims.

the new spring summer campaigns are starting to roll in. although we are still quite early in the season, i think i already have my favourite. i have a weakness for black and white portraits, and these from dunhill spring summer 2011 were so beautifully lensed. entitled ❛ voice ❜, the campaign is an honest and elegant portfolio of british men, each dressed in a dunhill outfit of their own choosing.

first up is 25 years old violin virtuoso charlie siem. with those chiseled good looks, tousled hair and immense talent, why has he only appeared in our radars now? i think it's really nice for dunhill to recognise and celebrate talents by casting a real individual. certainly adds another dimension to it. is this a trend we are seeing, first it was actors/celebrities and now real life heroes headlining campaigns?

regular readers would probably know that i am fed up with skinny prepubescent boys masquerading in men's clothes. i like men to be men, and love campaigns which are relevant and believable. also featured in dunhill's spring summer 2011 campaign is 47 years old artist and author harland miller. true to the campaign's theme, the casting for ❛ voice ❜ paid no regard to age, look, status or trend - only achievement. yes, mr miller may not be the typical posterboy we are familiar with, but he is believable. he makes me want to explore more of his work, more of dunhill's collection.

and i really love harland miller's shot as it featured two of my favourite accessories: the 'bladon 24hr bag' which looked so sumptuous, and the utterly delectable alligator strapped watch.

lest you think it's another fashion watch: the timepieces were designed by the house of dunhill and powered by swiss watchmakers jaeger le-coultre. simple and understated, i really really like the pink gold version on the right. simply gorgeous.

and not sure if it's because i've not noticed it before, the campaign is branded as alfred dunhill, rather than dunhill. definitely more regal, and loving the new direction. a little poignant that this is the last collection by kim jones for dunhill, but we all leave on a high, when the party is at it's peak don't we.
