Out Of Sight - Silence Speaks The Words Unspoken (2011)
Hi folks, I'm back to present a record that I have been listening to a lot over the last few weeks. This record is called Silence speaks the words unspoken and is the second release by Out Of Sight, a one man band from Germany.Usually, I'm not into Post Rock that much, because it is, in my opinion, all build-up and no pay-off. And a lot of that statement is true for this record, but the songs have a certain quality to them I cannot quite describe using my fairly limited vocabulary. I guess I could say that all five songs seem to be alive with so much beauty, but that would be cheesy, wouldn't it? I could say, that there are so many great melodies in those songs, which I tend to miss in other Post Rock songs. Or maybe, I could argue that I find this special blend of Metal and Post Rock to be very intriguing.
The fact is, that for most people, this record would be just another collection of Post Rock songs. For me, it is a lot more: for me, this is a collection of great songs and I do not want to put a lable on them, assigning them to a certain genre. This record contains 35 minutes of very beautiful music, it's as simple as that. 35 minutes of pure emotions which put a smile on my face every time.

Have fun with it!PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE SONGS WERE WRITTEN AND RECORDED FOR A PC-GAME. THE TRACKS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH OTHER RELEASES OF THE ARTIST AND MIGHT SOUND VERY DIFFERENT COMPARED TO THEM. Protesys - Censura (2008)
Das Intro der LP Censura gibt die Marschrichtung eindeutig vor: eine technisch versierte Mischung aus Metal und Hardcore, also tighte Metalriffs mit viel Hardcore-Groove haben die 4 Kubaner auf ihrer Debüt-CD verewigt. Das ist an sich nichts neues, aber man muss ja das Rad nicht immer neu erfinden... solange das Endprodukt qualitativ hochwertig ist, will und kann ich mich darüber nicht beschweren.
Hin und wieder schleichen sich bei den Kubanern auch progressive Songstrukturen ein, was immer wieder für ein Lächeln bei mir gesorgt hat. Die Jungs schaffen es, viele Tempowechsel in die jeweiligen Songs so zu integrieren, dass sie weder störend noch aufdringlich wirken (Pervertido wäre ein Paradebeispiel hierfür).
Da ich keinerlei Spanisch spreche geschweige denn verstehe, kann ich nichts über die Lyrics sagen, aber ich vermute mal, dass es sich bei Protesys um eine politische Band handelt... Albumtitel und Cover waren meine ersten Hinweise ;) Wenn mir jemand die Texte übersetzen könnte, ich wäre ihm sehr dankbar.
Abschließend kann ich jedem, der etwas für eine Hardcore-Metal-Mischung mit leicht progressiven Versatzstücken übrig hat, die LP Censura nur empfehlen. Jedem, der nicht sicher ist, ob ihm dieses Genre zusagt, kann ich nur raten, sich dieses Album trotzdem zu besorgen und einfach mal reinzuhören... und wenns euch dann nicht gefällt, so bin ich mir trotzdem sicher, dass ihr schon so manche halbe Stunde in eurem Leben schlechter unterhalten wart.

The opening track Intro immediately shows us, what this LP is all about: a technically versed mixture of Metal and Hardcore, a combination of tight, but rough riffing and groovy drums, coming to you straight from Cuba. And if you say, that you know about a thousand bands that do the same, all I can say is: Who cares! As long as everything is well done and nicely crafted, I just don't care if this has been done before.
Every now and then, progressive structures sneak up on you and when they start shinig through all that rough exterior, it makes you smile a little. Those four guys manage to stuff some of their songs with breaks and changes of pace without destroying the flow in the songs (Pervertido would be a perfect example for this).
Since I don't know any Spanish I can't say anything about the lyrics, but I do think that Protesys is a political band... by the way, my first clues were the album cover and the album title ;) If anybody would be so kind as to translate the lyrics for me, I would like that very much.
Finally, all I can say is, that everybody who likes Metal and Hardcore and still likes them, when they are mixed together in a big jug with a little bit of progressive structures, should get this album. And if you are not completely sure that you like this genre... aww well, get the damn thing anyway. And if you don't like it in the end, you still can't deny that there were some 30 minutes in your life before where you have been entertained worse.

Crawl Back In - Hang All Hope From The Nearest Tree (2009)
Das Cover erinnert ein bisschen an Black-Metal, oder? Bis auf eine unheimlich düstere Grundstimmung und die ein oder andere Gesangspassage haben die beiden aber nichts miteinander zu tun. Bei Crawl Back In handelt es sich nämlich eigentlich um eine Sludge-Band erster Güte... wenn man aber ihre Myspace-Seite betrachtet findet man dort Freunde wie Nachtmystium und Wolves In The Throne Room.Die drei Tracks auf dieser EP sind brutal und ziemlich düster, also genau das Richtige für all jene, die auch Gefallen an Bands wie Celeste finden. Mein persönliches Highlight auf diesem Release ist das 10 minütige, sehr athmosphärische Amid Laughter Let Us Perish, in dem Crawl Back In nochmal alle Register ihres Könnens ziehen. Hört euch das Ding mal an Leute!

That cover looks a little bit like Black Metal, doesn't it? But other than a morbid feel and some black-metalesque vocals, this release doesn't have anything to do with Black Metal, I can assure you. Crawl Back In do create their own special brand of Sludge on ths record... and you can understand those Black-Metalesque parts when you hit their Myspace page and look at their friends, where you can find bands like Nachtmystium and Wolves In The Throne Room.
The three tracks on this EP are someting fierce and really bleak and they are definitely for everybody who likes bands like Celeste. My personal favorite on this record is the 10 minute long Amid Laughter Let Us Perish, where Crawl Back In unite all their different styles into one giant downer. Guys, you should definitely give this record a try!

Deviniance - Tempora Mutantur, Nos Et Mutamus In Illis (2009)
"The Times They Are A-Changing" sang Bob Dylan 1963, um die revolutionäre Stimmung von damals in Worte zu fassen. "Tempora mutandur, nos et mutamus in illis" sagen Deviniance im Jahre 2009, "Die Zeiten ändern sich und wir ändern uns mit ihnen", eine nicht ganz so positive Botschaft wie noch vor 40 Jahren. Aber hier ist nicht nur der Titel dieser EP bedrückend, sondern auch die Stimmung, die auf diesem Sludge/Post Rock/Metal-Mix vorherrscht.
Ein elektronisches Intro mit Sprachsamples, zwei Tracks voll von Aggression und Wut und dann alles nochmal live... mehr braucht man nicht, um sich vom Können der Band zu überzeugen. Vor allem die Liveaufnahmen überzeugen trotz schlechterer Aufnahmequalität auf Grund der Energie, die in den 5 Jungs aus Nyköping, Schweden steckt. Unbedingt mal reinhören!

In 1963, Bob Dylan sang the line "The times they are a-changing" to sum up the hint of revolution that was in the air. In the year 2009, Deviniance say "Tempora mutandur, nos et mutamus in illis", which loosely translates to "The times are changing and so are we" and that isn't remotely as optimistic as "The times they are a-changing". Not only the title of this EP is bleak, but also the spirit of this rough Sludge/Post Rock/Metal mixture.

Mit einem kurzen, industrialartigen Intro beginnen 17 intensive Minuten Musik, die irgendwo zwischen Post Hardcore, Sludge und Metal pendelt, gespielt von fünf talentierten Brasilianern: Progress in between the Dead things heißt die EP, die sich jeder Fan von Kylesa und Cult Of Luna mal anhören sollte.
Mehr muss eigentlich nicht gesagt werden: die CD macht viel Spass und der einzige Kritikpunkt ist, dass sie nur 17 Minuten dauert. Also Leute, runterladen, rauf auf den MP3-Player und raus in die Sonne!
