designer haider ackermann made a surprise appearance at yesterday's party in paris to celebrate coke-light & karl lagerfeld's latest collaboration. the designer arrived in a tough khaki colored jacket, paired with a pair of soft and gorgeous silk trousers from his spring summer 2011 collection, paired with a lilac silk scarf from louis vuitton. is that a givenchy t-shirt on the inside?

i really like ackermann's silk trousers, but wished both gentlemen chose better shoes. those gorgeous red slippers would have been great on ackermann, and i am frankly shocked that lagerfeld did not kiwi his shoes.

Will.i.am at 2011 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in Westwood, Louboutin and Hourani

last saturday, black eyed peas member will.i.am attended the 2011 nickelodeon kids choice awards in los angeles. he arrived at the orange carpet, wearing a checked blazer and waistcoat from vivienne westwood spring summer 2011, black t-shirt and denims, wacky fluorescent pink sunnies and christian louboutin studded freddy flats. i felt that the usually flamboyantly dressed will.i.am was rather subdued, nice but something seems to be missing. i thought the styling from the runway was great, it will be more exciting if will.i.am was styled that way too. what i love about the blazer, is that the waistcoat is sewn in. the 2-in-1 piece creates a layered look without the bulk, and great for warmer days. this seems to be a signature piece, and this style is reworked every season with different fabrics and prints.

the matching trousers, and a selection of the quirky vivienne westwood blazers are available online here. the studded shoes from christian louboutin were from previous seasons, so good luck finding them.

will.i.am also wore a pair of very fashion forward mykita x rad hourani special edition red frames. if there's anyone who can carry off these sunnies, it'll have to be him.

watched sunday's academy awards? i didn't. i just browsed the net to see who wore what. of course it's definitely more interesting to see who wore what couture gowns on the red carpet, as opposed to dissecting if it should be black tux or black tux with that black bow tie. however if you've been reading my tweets on sunday night, you would have seen my pick of my best dressed men, including justin timberlake in tom ford and darren aronofsky in 3.1 phillip lim.

hot on their heels, is jeremy renner looking mighty fine in a black tux from yves saint laurent. jeremy was nominated for the best supporting actor award for his role in "the town", he certainly is one of the better dressed gents on the night.

New menswear store preview: Hostem, Shoreditch

hostem is a new menswear store located in shoreditch. away from the west end touristy crowds, shoreditch in east end london is home to a crowd that is 00o00h so hip it hurts. though only a short walk away from my office, i must admit i rarely venture into that part of town. out of the newly opened shoreditch high street overground station, i would turn left towards liverpool street for the financial districts, and sometimes down right towards kingsland road where there are vietnamese eateries aplenty. kind of half way in between lies redchurch street, where some of the very trendy shops and restaurants lie, where some of the it crowd in town gathers. hostem really wouldn't look out of place.

on the sunny tuesday afternoon, i ventured into new territories to discover what hostem has in store.


hostem is home to a rather niche but well edited selection of labels: ann demeulemeester, damir doma, casely-hayford, visvim, 3.1 phillip lim, rick owens as pictured above, amongst many others. the shop is made up of three distinct areas, one of which is an ever evolving space in which visiting designers are invited to take up residence on a short term basis.

my favourite piece in store, is the above leather and silk panel jacket from julius. i love the interesting mix of materials, quite possible the two most diverse textures but working so well together. currently included in their spring summer sales, the jacket is now 40% off! if you can't make it to shoreditch, the jacket is also available from their online store here.

besides the curation of labels, the interior of the store is also well worth a mention. design duo jamesplumb gave the shop a rough-luxe aesthetic: raw wooden floor boards, reworked mirrors, chandeliers that erupts from mini lamp shades. the shop also feels like a mini collectors' emporium: there's even a vintage louis vuitton trunk in the fitting room, just another reason to try something on.

i think i was too quick to judge their neighbourhood, "how odd a location" i thought. a 10min walk down red church street soon proved me wrong, i really want to lunch at that eatery around the corner and people watch. a cool little gem, i'm so glad to discover hostem and it's surroundings.
