When you buy our EP, you will also receive a button and a poster with artwork by the same artist. (for six euros + postal costs). Watch pictures of the packaging on our myspace or our website.We only made a really limited number of them, but we have put a lot of effort in it, to make them look awesome. Also we offer our music as a free download, because we support downloading of music, especially for small bands such as ourselves. Unglaublich was unsere Freunde pandoras.box aus Bayern nicht nur musikalisch, sondern auch lyrisch und konzepttechnisch produzieren. Auch die zweite Singleauskopplung Golden Spoon zeigt, dass das sehr innovative und erfolgreiche freie Album Barriers keine Eintagsfliege ist und man sichtlich mehr von ihnen hören wird. pandoras.box verdeutlichen uns, was wahre Musiker ausmacht. Auch diese EP von Bella Watt ist die pure Abwechslung. Der Song "Monocular Dystrophy" könnte ein Song von A Perfect Circle sein. Generell erinnern mich die Gesangslinien sehr an einen MJK bei APC. Viel Spaß.___________________________________________________________
This EP from Bella Watt is also a very interesting and alternating one. In my opinion the song "Monocular Dystrophy" could be a A Perfect Circle song. Generally the voicelines on this EP reminds me very hard on a MJK with APC. Have fun with this one too.

Bella Watt - The Mirror Test (2009)
Bella Watt nannte sich eine sehr sympatische Band aus New York. Zur Zeit scheinen sie auch aufgelöst zu sein. Dennoch hat uns Jeff, der Bassist der Gruppe, gebeten ihre Alben Online zu stellen. Sie kreiieren eine ganz besondere Mischung aus den verschiedensten Stilrichtungen und überzeugen mit Abwechslung. Der Gesang passt fügtsich optimal in die Soundstrukturen ein und das Output kann sich wirklich hören lassen. Ein Werk, das nicht in einem Hördurchlauf bezwungen werden kann. Das Album entwickelt sich mit jedem Mal.___________________________________________________________
Bella Watt was a very likeable band from NYC. At this time it semms to be that the band is broken up, but Jeff (the bassist) nevertheless asked us to put their releases online. Bella Watt created an especial mix of different genres and satisfies the listener with alternation. The voices fits perfectly into the sound-structures. For these reasons the output is really enjoyable but i think this is a release that nobody is able to grab at once. The album is developing itself with every run.

marionette ID - Emptiness Will Change Your Mind (2008)
Dass Ungarn tolle PostRock-Künstler hat, haben erst vor Kurzem Képzelt Város unter Beweis gestellt. marionette ID aus Budapest kreiieren eine ganz besondere Mischung aus PostRock und IndieRock. Von der Atmosphäre der Songs her erinnern sie mich sehr stark an die italienischen Giardini Di Mirò, was so Einiges heißen mag. In fast 50 Minuten packen sie mit „Emptiness Will Change Your Mind“ 8 starke Songs, die zum mitsingen animieren. So „leer“ scheint die CD doch nicht zu sein. Und „leer“ wird sie auch bestimmt nicht ausgehen. Sie hat Beifall verdient!___________________________________________________________
Képzelt Város recently showed us that Hungary has born good PostRock-Artists too. marionette ID from Budapest are creating an exceptionally mix between PostRock and IndieRock. The atmospheres of the songs reminds me very hard of the Giardini Di Mirò ones and that’s saying something. In nearly 50 minutes on „Emptiness Will Change Your Mind“ they've wrapped up 8 really good songs which incite one to sing along. The CD seems not to be as „empty“ as said in the title. And i think it also won’t go away „empty“-handed in the future. It definitely deserves approval!

Anoroc - The Completion Of Our Exaggeration (2009)
Unsere Freunde von Anoroc haben endlich ihr neues Werk am Start, das erst morgen live präsentiert wird, aber schon heute hier digital erhältlich ist. Ich hatte schon einige Informationen im Vorfeld bekommen, welche Einflüsse das neue Output enthalten würde. Wie hier nachzulesen, tat ich mich damals sehr schwer das erste Album "AntiGONE" zu beschreiben und nachdem sie gesagt hatten, dass das nächste Album ein wenig Richtung Post-Rock gehen würde, war ich sehr gespannt darauf und konnte mir eigentlich eher wenig vorstellen wie es dann wohl fertiggestellt klingen würde. Gestern hab ich endlich das fertige Album bekommen und war positiv überrascht wie gut die Ideen vom Fünfergespann umgesetzt wurden.Sie klingen immer noch wie Anoroc, viel Gesang, tolle Stimme, guter Text, immer noch sehr funkiger grungiger Rock. In Sachen Song-Arrangement hat sich meiner Meinung nach am Meisten getan. Es wirkt alles um einiges durchdachter! Die Songs schaffen eine gute Atmosphäre in die man eintauchen kann. Bei vielen Songs hört man definitiv den Einfluss des Post-Rocks raus. Samples wurden eingebaut, Triolen, experimentelle Drumrhythmen, Trompetenspiel (gespielt von Gregor Lehner) etc. etc...
Dennoch haben sie es sich nicht nehmen lassen bei ihren Wurzeln zu bleiben und akustische, funkig rockige, grungige Songs oder einfach alles quer gemischt aufzunehmen.
Ich finde den Mix sehr einzigartig und würde „The Completion Of Our Exaggeration“ jedem Musikliebhaber empfehlen, da es einfach wahnsinnig viel gute Ideen beinhaltet und mit keiner Sekunde langweilig wird, wenn man sich darauf einlässt und sich auf die Details konzentriert.
Alex, Philipp, Robert, Manuel und Roman haben sich hier echt ins Zeug gelegt und ernten großen Respekt von mir.
Einzigartig, Innovativ, Gut!
PS.: Wie schon erwähnt werden sie morgen (27.11.2009) ihre Cd live vorstellen. Dies findet im „Festsaal der Konrad Fichtl Hauptschule (HS1)“ in Wattens statt. Beginn: 20 Uhr. Der Eintritt ist FREI!

Our friends from Anoroc finally start through with their latest effort, which will be presented live tomorrow - available here for free today! I was told a lot of influences beforehand. Like I stated here, it was very difficult for me to describe their first album "AntiGONE", and after they let me know that the new album would have it's post-rockish moments, I was very excited to hear the finished work. I got it yesterday and I was blown away by how the five guys played their ideas out.
They still sound like Anoroc - lots of vocals, great voice, great lyrics, funky and grungy rock music. For me, their song arrangements underwent the most notable improvement. It all sounds more thought-out! And with some songs you can really hear the post-rock influence: tremolo picking, samples, experimental drum patterns, trumpets, and so on.
Still they didn't neglect their roots and record acoustic, funky rocky songs, or everything mixed up.
This mix is what makes them unique and I'd recommend "The Completion Of Our Exaggeration" to every music-lover, because it contains lots of great ideads and never fails to amaze if you let it happen and concentrate on the details.
Alex, Philipp, Robert, Manuel and Roman have really pushed themselves and I show the greatest respect to them.

The Great Disappointment - The Great Disappointment (2009)
Post-Rock, Screamo, Hardcore? Es ist wirklich schwer The Great Disappointment einzuordnen. Zu sehr springen sie auf ihrem gleichnamigen Album von einer Stilrichtung in die Andere, überspringen ein paar um dann doch noch auf sie zurückzugreifen. Das verblüffende dabei: Es gelingt ihnen sehr gut diesen Genre-Mix zu einem Ganzen zu verbinden. So facettenreich der Sound ist, so facettenreich präsentieren sich alle beteiligten Musiker. Vom Gesang der teils in Geschrei gipfelt, teils melodiös daher kommt bis hin zur die Gitarrenarbeit die von Post-Rock typischen Triolen bis hin zum gefrickelten Hardcore Riff scheinbar alles bietet.Der Einstieg kommt mit „Himsa Pt. 1 & 2“. Sehr ruhig geht es zur Sache. Post-Rock prangert über der schönen Melodie. Sehr langsam steigert sich das Stück. Im Hintergrund Schreie. Spannung baut sich auf, wann wird der Hund endlich von der Leine gelassen?! Dann ist es so weit: Drückende Gitarren, hämmernder Rhythmus und brachiales Geschrei aber sofort wieder der Wechsel zurück zur klaren Melodie.
Weiter geht’s mit „Walls“. Der Einstieg überrascht, klarer Gesang in Emo/Indie Manier, ein eingängiges Riff. Insgesamt direkter und einfacher als der Opener. Auch hier wird wieder Geschrei eingesetzt, jedoch dezenter, der Gesang überwiegt bei dem eher kurzen Stück.
„Of Life And Afterlife“ kommt da schon wieder wesentlich brachialer daher. Das Schlagzeug macht richtig Druck und das Geschrei keift einem nur so entgegen. Auch die Gitarrenarbeit erinnert nun wieder eher an Hardcore. Tolles Break! Zwischendrin schön gezupfte Melodien untermalt mit Geschrei – Wechsel vom Hardcore zum Screamo und zurück.
„The Wonderful Wizard of Oz“ ist lediglich ein überleitendes Rauschen zum wieder geradliniger, popiger anmutenden „Flesh & Bones“, das mit schönen Soundspielereien aufwartet und mich dabei in eine kleine Traumwelt entführt. Mehrstimmiger Gesang rundet das wohlig warme, euphorische Gefühl ab, dass einem dieser Song vermittelt: „We are only flesh&bones!“ So ist`s, die Welt ist schön J.
„Thy Kingdom Come“ ist – Überraschung – wieder völlig anders. Der Gesang mutet fast schon psychedelisch an, erinnert an John Frusciante. Wieder ein Bruch und ab geht die Post! The Great Disappointment lieben das Hin- und Herspringen auch innerhalb der Songs, zerstören diese dadurch aber nicht.
„Le’olam lo shuv“ entführt einen wieder in eine Traumwelt. Ruhig, atmosphärisch baut es eine Landschaft um einen herum - keine Ahnung warum das bei mir immer eine Unterwasserlandschaft ist (trotz minutenlangem Vogelgezwitscher am Schluss des Songs) aber vielleicht verbinde ich Delay einfach mit Wasser. Hier wird wieder wunderschöner Post-Rock geboten.
„Our Dreams Are The Light“ & „…That Will Lead Us Home” bilden eine Einheit oder eher ein Geschwister-Paar mit unterschiedlichem Temperament. „Our Dreams Are The Light“ macht da weiter wo „Le’olam lo shuv“ aufhört. Verspielt, verträumt. Nach der kurzen Träumerei geht’s direkt zum harten „…That Will Lead Us Home“ weiter. Hier wird wieder geschrien, gerifft, gewalzt was das Zeug hält. Wechsel baby! Auch hier kommt dieser nicht zu kurz.
Das anschließende „Dorothy“ fügt sich in das Konzept des ganzen Albums ein. Ein freudiges über alle Grenzen Springen.
The Great Disappointment schaffen es trotz verschiedenster Stil Einflüsse ein rundes und einmaliges Gesamtwerk zu kreieren. Dabei wissen sie in allen Bereichen gänzlich zu überzeugen, großartig! Jedoch kein Album zum Nebenbeihören.

Post-Rock, Screamo, Hardcore? It’s kind of hard to allocate The Great Disappointment. The sound of the selftitled album is influenced by many genres. They combine these influences to an integrated whole. Very multifarious stuff. The vocals shouting and also melodious and the guitartracks reaches from postrockish triplets up to Hardcore-Riffs and everything in between.
The Intro is „Himsa Pt. 1 & 2“. A very silent and beautiful melody-based postrockish song. Slowly growing. Shouts in the background. The arrangement is based on thrilling you more and more. When does the breakout start? Here it comes: Oppressive guitars, hammering rhythm and brute shouts but right away a change to the clean melody again. Splendid.
Continuing with „Walls“. The introduction surprises, clean emo-indie-typical vocals and a catchy Riff. All in all more straight and more simply than the opener. Shouts again but the clean vocals overbalance this track.
„Of Life And Afterlife“ is a more brute song. The drums are really hard and the shouts very corrosive. The guitars are once again reminding me of hardcore-based songs. A great break! In between nice picked melodies with shouts again – This song is a constant changeover among Hardcore and Screamo.
„The Wonderful Wizard of Oz“ is a nice noisy interlude to „Flesh & Bones“. „Flesh & Bones“ is convincing with beautiful soundscapes. You’ll feel like being kidnapped into a dream world. Additionally to this, the several-voices-singing will upgrade the comfortly warm feeling of this song. You will never want to leave this place. „We are only flesh & bones!“ That’s right, the world is beautiful J.
„Thy Kingdom Come“ is a surprise once again. Very different than the other songs. The voice is a little bit psychedelic. It reminds of John Frusciante.
„Le’olam lo shuv“ is once again kidnapping you into a dream world. Silent, atmospheric, building a landscape of peace around you. No idea why i always have underwater-feelings with such tunes (aside from the twittering of the birds at the end of the song). Beautiful Post-Rock-Song.
„Our Dreams Are The Light“ & „…That Will Lead Us Home” are building an unit with different temperaments. „Our Dreams Are The Light“ continues the end of „Le’olam lo shuv“. Kittenish, dreamy. After this short reverie „…That Will Lead Us Home“ will show you the hard side of TGD again. Destruction.
The following track „Dorothy“ completes this release. You won’t detect any constraints!
The Great Disappointment manage it despite of the different influences to create a perfect circle of tunes. In addition to that they really know how to overwhelm the listener in all categories. Really great stuff! An album that efforts many time.

Overdrive Amp Explosion - Blanks (2009)
Overdrive Amp Explosion ist ein 4-Mann Schweizer Indie Projekt aus Fribourg. Die Jungs spielen eine Art Post-Rock wie wir ihn z.B. von Giardini di Mirò kennen, bringen aber immer wieder eine gesunde Portion Härte in ihren Sound, die mehr an Indie Rock Bands erinnert - mit einer Spur von Sentimentalität.Mit ihren neuesten Werk Blanks legen die Eidgenossen soundtechnisch einiges zum Vorgänger drauf, die Drums und der Bass sind satter und die Gitarren klarer. Unter dem Strich ist das ganze hauptsächlich instrumental aufgebaut, mit Einschüben von verhaltenem Gesang. Die ganze Scheibe deckt einen völlig einzigartigen Stil ab und weiss zu überzeugen, wenn auch manche Songs an andere angelehnt zu sein scheinen und mit der Zeit monoton wirken können.
OAE sind eine ambitionierte Band und verdienen durch ihren mehrheitlich sehr speziellen Stil definitiv mehr Aufmerksamkeit. Gelungene Kombination aus Indie, Post-Rock und Alternative Rock.

Overdrive Amp Explosion are a 4-man Swiss indie project from Fribourg. The guys make a kind of post-rock like we know it from bands like Giardini di Mirò, but are also able to spread a healthy heavy spice in their sound, that reminds me of indie rock bands - combined with a track of melancholy.
With their latest album Blanks, the Swiss guys have done some better sound technical works, the drums and the bass are fat and the guitar is clearer than on the album before (Intervals). All in all, this album is mainly instrumentally built, with some slices of discreet vocals. The whole CD has a very own and unique style and is able to take the listeners attention, although some of the songs are a bit like the others of them and seem to get like monotonous with the time.
OAE are a very ambitioned band und deserve a lot more attention because of their totally unique style-mix. Good combination between the frontieres of indie, post-rock and alternative rock.

Finneyerkes - Gather And Sing (2009)
Dazzled Sadness
Finneyerkes is a two man project from Alabama/Virginia, USA. They are influenced by many different artists especially in the post-rock genre (such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Mogwai) and films as well as soundtracks.
Finneyerkes create wide soundscapes which leave enough space to drift away but still catch the listener's breath. The electronic elements are as different as possible from each other, there are ambiental, spacy tabs and in the same songs, suddenly, noisy sounds and even some techno elements. They also use guitars and a lot of sad spoken words which complete the atmosphere of Finneyerkes. The ambience is melancholic - especially when the guitar comes in, this is something which haunts me a shiver over my back!
Finneyerkes is very different from other electronica bands, the post-rock influences are visible and sometimes reminded me on the calmy parts of French Teen Idol. The diversion is well to see between the two tracks Jacob and I am the Spy, where sad guitar tones meet dazzled electronica-elements.
You almost HAVE TO try Finneyerkes, because they have a song for every lonely heart out there! Good work, carry on.

pandoras.box - Barriers (2009)
pandoras.box sind ein 5-Mann Projekt aus Bayern. Die Jungs sind schon seit langer Zeit befreundet und haben mit pandoras.box eine Band entwickelt, die sich zwischen allen möglichen Kapiteln der experimentelleren Rockgeschichte zu bewegen scheint. Unmöglich alle Einflüsse aufzuzählen habe ich hier nur die allerwichtigsten erfasst, zu denen Indie, Post-Rock, Shoegaze, Folk, Alternative Rock und auch auch Progressive gehören. Die Büchse der Pandora ist eine Geschichte aus der griechischen Mythologie: Pandora öffnete die unheilvolle Büchse mit der neben allem Übel auch die Hoffnung die Welt ereilte. Und so hat auch pandoras.box zwei Seiten: Die poppige, ohrwurmige Seite, und dann diese experimentelle, post-rockige Seite.Das Album Barriers beginnt mit elektronischen Drums auf a modarete Breeze, die wir von experimentellen Shoegaze Bands wie School of seven Bells kennen. Schliesslich kommt die Stimme von Sänger Martin dazu und das ganze wird etwas poppiger, mein erster Gedanke galt hier dem Genre Alternative Pop. Auf dieser musikgeschichtlichen Reise entdecken wir als zweiten Song This Tenderness, der zuerst etwas schwerverdaulich beginnt und dann mit einer Gesangsmelodie fortfahrt, die so unglaublich schön ist, dass es mir nach dem 20. Mal hören noch eiskalt den Rücken herab läuft. Dieser Song ist so fragil und so melodiös, dass mir der Atem für mehrere Sekunden stockt. Wir befinden uns nach This Tenderness auf einem melancholischen Trip Richtung Indie und einer erneut wunderbaren Gesangspassage, Keyboardharmonien und markantem Gitarrenspiel. Die nächsten Songs sind dann eher ruhig und haben mich hier und da sogar an Britpop erinnert. Next to Mine ist eine psychedelische Ballade, die sehr ruhig und ausgeglichen wirkt, wie zu hoffen kommt danach wieder mehr Härte ins Spiel und lockert die Platte erneut auf, was jetz mehr wie Post-Rock klingt war vorhin noch melodiöser Indie und dennoch erkennt man unter tausenden von Songs, dass genau DIESER von pandoras.box stammt ohne ihn zu kennen. Sight Unseen ist dann wieder ein Song der eher folkig balladesk beginnt, die akustische Gitarre wird durch Streichelemente ergänzt und bekommt dann durch diesen wunderschönen Gesang und die geniale Stimme Martins das gewisse Etwas. Später wird der Song noch durch E-Gitarren und das Schlagzeug komplettiert und ergibt wieder diese Britpop mässige Stimmung, die ich vorhing erwähnt habe. I don't care ist dann wieder ein etwas experimentellerer Track, der allerdings mit gewaltigem Ohrwurm potenzial aufwartet - ist wohl einer der ausdrucksstarksten Songs der Platte. Experimentell Post-Rockig geht es dann auch wieder weiter. Es bringt jedoch nichts wenn ich nun auch noch den kompletten zweiten Teil dieses Albums eingehend beschreibe, denn ein Hit jagt hier den nächsten!
pandoras.box strahlt eine Atmosphäre aus, die so einzigartig ist und so speziell, dass man sich eigentlich fragen muss, wieso diese Band noch nicht zu den ganz großen im Bereich der experimentellen Musik gehört. Sie hat genau das, was den meisten Bands heute nämlich fehlt, dieser Mut zu neuem, diese Kraft und Ausstrahlung. Kauft euch dieses Album, kauft es euch dreimal und versiegelt es in einem Safe - es ist einfach nur geil! Experimental post-rock is the sound of the next songs, but it doesn’t help you if I describe each song of the second part too, because one hit follows the next, just listen!

pandoras.box are a five piece band from Bavaria, Germany. Since a long time, the guys are good friends und developed in the name of pandoras.box a band, that moves between each possible chapter of rock-history. Impossible to mention all the influences of the band, I tried to mention some of the most ipmportant ones such as indie, post-rock, shoegaze, folk, alternative rock and also progressive rock. The box of Pandora is a tale from the Greek mythology: Pandora opened the box and with it, all the evil of the world came out, but also hope. It’s the same with pandoras.box, they have two sides: the pop-rock, catchy tune-side and the experimental and post-rock side.
The album Barriers starts with electronic drums on a moderate Breeze that we know from experimental shoegaze bands like School of seven Bells. Then, the voice of the vocalist Martin comes in and the whole thing gets a bit more like pop-rock, my first notion was something like alternative pop. On this music-historical voyage, we discover the second song This Tenderness, which has in the first part something that is hard to understand, but then, a vocal-melody starts that is so unbelievably beautiful. I start shivering even after the 20th time of listening. This song is so fragile and so melodic, that my breath stops for a few seconds. We’re now on a trip of melancholic indie – and again a wonderful vocal part, keyboard harmonies and catchy guitar playing. The next songs are calmer and sometimes remind me on something like Britpop. Next to mine is a psychedelic ballad, that is very calm and reasonable. But just as I longed for something heavier, it came. The next song keeps the whole album catchy, very good song order too. What now sounds more like post-rock, sounded like melodic indie before and still you recognize this under a million of tapes without listening to it before. Sight Unseen is a song that is more folkie and ballad-like , the acoustic guitar is completed by strings and after that, again a wonderful vocal part, perfected by Martins gorgeous voice. Guitars and drums come in too and create this Britpop feeling again. I don’t care is a more experimental track, though it has this catchy-tune effect too and is one of the most expressing songs of pandoras.box.
pandoras.box express an atmosphere that is so unique and special, that you have to ask yourself, why this band is not one of the most popular ones in the experimental music scene! They have exactly the thing, other bands do not have: the courage to do something new, the power and expression. Buy this new album, buy it three times and put it in a safe – it’s just awesome!

Scout Niblett, Will Oldham, and Barack Obama: Once Again, Authenticity is Everything in Politics, Music Too. If a New Cultural Awakening Is Coming, It's None Too Soon For Me!
I SAW A NEW DAWN RISING, PULLED BACK INTO NIGHT.
I AGAIN SEE A BRIGHTER DAY COMING. OBAMA'S WIN; THE MUSIC OF WILL OLDHAM AND SCOUT NIBLETT, AMONG OTHERS, TELL ME THAT MAGIC IS BACK, THE "BLUE MEANIES" HAVE FLED, AND THAT SOMETHING WONDERFUL MAY BE HAPPENING AGAINI feel I have not liked music very much for a long time. Having been one who experienced the Beatles era -- beginning to the end -- and participated in the "magic" that only existed at that time, when early on, the music that said that we had all the power to make the world what it should be, made everyone I knew feel like they were important and had a role in an incredible time. That changed. And I haven't heard anything that came even close to having any kind of message like that, let alone impact, in the decades then.
Then last year, I came across the music of Scout Niblett, Will Oldham, Daniel Johnston, Songs: Ohia, and other's producing what is called "Indie" (from Independent") genre. Their music did so much for my life and giving me hope about our collective future. I am convinced that Will Oldham is as much a musical genius as Bob Dylan. And I think Scout Niblett is at least as provocative, and authentic; actually more so, in particular in the way she weaves those unique percussive elements into the mix, waking you, almost shaking into you, her message.
My take of Scout's main important sharing, her offering, her reminder to us (especially in a world of obsessive-compulsive everybodys and "Monk") is of the perfection and beauty that is found only in the authentically unpolished, unassuming, and unpretentious. Her work says to me that we are all beautiful in the same way as Nature's own unpolished beauty. She conveys that we are all truly geniuses, or perfect in our uniqueness, or essentially divine, or all of that. But only when we have the courage to give up trying to shape the outcomes of our actions, and to force our wills upon the world instead of flowing with it. She reminds me that we are so much more, and we border every moment the magical, when we dare let ourselves be our slightly worn and unraveled, imperfect but unique, essential selves, relying on the goodness of our divine intuition to direct our actions, foregoing and putting behind us the mental filters that act like so many nagging nannies or parental voices.
I am brought again to remember that being oneself is not only beautiful, but is what brings down the barriers between us all, and thereby helps us to realize our Unity. We see so much fake "beauty" – inhuman, unnatural productions of technicians – a "beauty" that relies on the precisely timed, measured, and symmetrical patterning of auditory elements, copied, as precisely as atoms, or files on a computer, from past creations, Now no longer "alive." Such "music" I've heard, it is astonishing in its familiarity, its sameness, its ability to NOT wake us up. It makes for good office, workshop, or supermarket music, for it soothes us like a familiar heartbeat to a baby. To its "credit," its guaranteed not to disrupt your driving either; and perhaps that's why there's so much of it: Folks living ever more busy and complex lives, how many choose music that might actually shake them up and cause them to lose their footing, in this rat race to a nowhere, disguising itself as survival and endlessly shape-shifting to mimic the meanderings of the victim's thinking, so as not to ever be seen ("Nowhere Man" – The Beatles). So, to busy to even want real music. Yes, that's one big diiference between my generation and what happened afterwards when others were forced to bear higher costs, lower wages, and all the rest, beginning with Reagan's "dawn" in America, the nightmare end of which we are witnessing now. So, this so-called music, may have its roots and its attractions; still, it is a technicians production, not an artist's, and can be produced just as well, and just as inhumanly, by computer programs.
Sadly, I've watched several generations of "musicians," more fearful than they would ever show and lacking true vision or (divine) inspiration, spew out, decade after decade, such melodic or even cacophonic, offerings. Like anything else, there are those who want to be artists (musicians, writers, singers, rock stars), and then there are those who have no choice and must do their art, exercise their unique talent, even if no reward is to be had (remember Mozart died penniless, cast into a pauper's grave). Like Mozart, true genius has no choice.
Scout and Will create perfection in their very insistence on following the razor's edge of the imperfect, the "not cool," even the "inappropriate." Scout, like Oldham, reawakens us to the sublime perfection of the spontaneous and raw tonal pathways, occurring only in the moment, those perfectly askance and glancing, slightly unraveled apparently random, somehow precisely tweaked, purely in the moment intuitive impulses and flashes and even unconscious elements; thus, I hear the channeling of a divine splendor that Scout, for one, could not shake if she tried.
Scout and Will create astonishing audio resting places for the mind, which border on the otherworldly. Quite different from each other are their productions, but equally adept are they in creating the trippy new worlds the lyrics and music weave out of the finer filaments of your mind. The genius of Scout Niblett and Will Oldham lies in their incredible bravery in being truly authentic (not fake authentic; you really see their many facets, which aren't always flattering). And that authenticity comes only out of an incredible willingness to throw oneself directly into the fires of their fears. I could go on, but just to say that that truth comes through like something so true that it partakes of whatever it is that holds us all up and keeps it all together. And that Truth, in which they express themselves, in my opinion is what makes their music more than good, easy on the ears, etc.; it is what takes it beyond music to something magical...
Indeed, like the Beatles did to an entire generation long ago, I came away changed by their music the first time I heard it. I couldn't stop listening all night long, and by the morning I felt I would never be the same again. And I haven't been. Like Barack Obama, Scout Niblett and Wild Oldham also give me the feeling that life is really worth living. That you really do want to hang around in this skin-encapsulated ego for a while. Even if just for the incredibly magical you encounter occasionally.
Awaken, North Wind! - Doubt (2009)
"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams."Mit dem als Intro fungierenden Titeltrack „Doubt“ lassen die fünf Menschen aus Pennsylvania bei mir schon mal große Hoffnung aufkommen. Elektronische Rhythmen mit sphärischen Gitarren. Doch es wird ganz anders…
Es wird nämlich nun mit moderner Rockmusik aufgefahren, die meinem Wissen nach oft als Post-Hardcore betitelt wird. Es ist nur alles ein bisschen sachter, was zum einen auf den ständigen Klaviereinsatz zum anderen auf die fehlenden Screams und Shouts zurückzuführen ist. Man wird ein klein wenig an Chiodos erinnert nur ohne nervenaufreibende Stimme und übermäßigen Theatralismus. Das erste Mal wird bei „Melody“ halt gemacht. Eine zuckersüße Akustik Ballade die nicht, wie bei so vielen anderen Bands dieser Richtung, in Kitsch abdriftet. Danach wird das nun schon bekannte Konzept weitergeführt: Ohrwurmmelodien mit ergreifendem Gesang und Klavieruntermalung. Das ganze ist jedoch so klasse gemacht dass man sich gar nicht vorstellen kann warum Awaken, North Wind! nicht ganz oben mitmischen! Sobald das Gewitter bei „Vultures“ einsetzt zeigt sich die Band ruhiger als zuvor. Balladenhafter und nachdenklicher führen sie einen weiter, aber es wartet immer schon der Ausbruch am Ende, der alle Energien entlädt um sie ruhig und langsam beim nächsten Stück wieder aufzuladen. Der letzte Song „Afraid“ ist wahrscheinlich das zukunftsweisende Stück von Awaken, North Wind!. In den elfeinhalb Minuten wird alles zusammengelegt was zuvor geboten wurde und noch mehr. Geigen, Pauken, Kirchenglocken und zum ersten Mal nun auch Schreigesang. Episch!
Awaken, North Wind! sollte viel mehr Aufmerksamkeit zuteil werden. Für mich wirklich unverständlich warum sie bis dato so „unentdeckt“ sind. Nicht einmal 100 Hörer bei Last.fm, mehr muss ich nicht mehr sagen, außer:
Holt euch Awaken, North Wind! , ein echter Geheimtipp!

While Doubt, the title-track, serves as an intro, 5 people from Pennsylvania let the hope inside me swell instantly. Electronic rhythms, paired with atmospherical guitars. But it will change...
This happens through the appearence of modern rock-music, which is, to my knowledge, often entitled as Post-Hardcore. However, everything feels a little smoother, which is ascribed to the permanent use of piano, on the one hand, and the lack of screams and shouts on the other. One might come to think of Chiodos, minus the nerve-wracking voice and excessive theatricalism.
"Melody" offers the first stop. A sickly-sweet acoustic ballad, which won't, unlike other band's songs in this genre, come off as cheesy. Afterwards, the known concept is carried on: catchy tunes, with captivating vocals and piano-background. This is takes place in such a beautiful way, that one can not comprehend, why Awaken, North Wind! is not a factor front and center. The moment the thunderstorm enters in "Vultures", the band apprears more quiet than before. More ballad-like and meditatively they push you along, but the explosion at the end is still waiting, unloading all the energy, just to be re-charged in the next song. The last song "Afraid" is possible the band's most foreward-looking one. In eleven and a half minutes everything, that was featured in the past, is put together - with even alot more. Violins, kettledrums, church-bells and - for the first time - screaming. Epic!
Awaken, North Wind! deserve a lot more attention. It is truely incomprehensible, why they're so "undiscovered" to date. With less than 100 listeners on Last.fm, I do not have to say more, but:

Steaming Satellites - Karate Party (EP) (2008)
Der Weltraum unterliegt keiner gesicherten Abgrenzung zum Luftraum. Einigkeit besteht aber darüber, dass dieser spätestens ab einer Höhe von 80 Meilen beginnt. Ob wir hier auf den von den 4 Salzburger Jungs kreierten "indie space rock" treffen, scheint nach der neu gestarteten Karate Party Ep äußerst wahrscheinlich.Diese ist zur vorangegangenen Cd „Neurotic Handshake at the Local Clown Party“ eine etwas leichtere Kost, besticht jedoch mit ihrer Empathie zur Musik, fernab jeglichen Stereotyps. Sie lädt weniger zum Nachdenken ein, zerstört die durch das Debut manisch geschaffene Passion zur Melancholie und bietet somit hinreichend Platz für Gefühle, die wir so von den Satellites bisher nicht kannten. Der ständige Durst nach Neuem war wohl der ausschlaggebende Punkt ein Werk zu schaffen, welches nicht auf der Bestätigung anderer beruht, sondern vielmehr seine Bestimmung in sich selbst findet. Entschlossenheit, Ambition und Hingabe sind Träger einer Band, die keine Musik macht nur um zu gefallen, sich nie in gängige Genres einstufen lässt, sondern Emotionen ins Rampenlicht rückt, welche Menschen berühren, ohne dabei artifiziell zu wirken.
Supernova ante portas!
Elemente aus Shoegaze, Postrock, Rock und Indie türmen sich zu einer eklatanten Soundwall, welche anschließend in einem Melting-Pot explodiert, der seines gleichen lange sucht und wohl auch dem müdesten Tanzmuffel das Zittern in die Beine treibt.

Dynamik und scheinbar unaufhaltsame Energie atomisieren bei Live-Auftritten jeglichen Funken an Zweifel und reißen alles und jeden in ein Perpetuum mobile, das abseits sämtlicher Realität irgendwo im Weltraum kreist - Für etwaige Schäden durch Weltraumgegenstände wird nicht gehaftet, hier wird auf den ART.2.des Übereinkommens von 1972 verwiesen.

Azoora - Revelations (EP) & Tall Tales (EP) 2008
Azoora ist eine 8-händige Band, die ihr Hauptquartier in Großbritanien hat. Mit der Besetzung:
- Paul Loader (songwriter/vocals/acoustic guitar)
- John Purcell (producer/composer/multi instrumentalist)
- Trudi Lawence (backing vocals)
- Ben Cochrane (live drums)
Ein Mix aus The Prodigy, Yann Tiersen, Depeche Mode und Oasis, doch mit genug Eigenheit um für sich selbst zu stehen. Genauso eigen wie die Band, ist auch die Anordnung der Songs, die sich von den insgsamt 6 Songs, in 2er Paare unterteilt. Dabei werden die Songs pro Pärchen weitergefüht, was man auch an der Betitelung erkennt. Insgesamt ist die E.P. sehr kompakt und läuft fließend, was auch an der Produktion liegt, die ein gutes Hörverständnis und -empfinden beweist. Diese E.P. ist trotz ihrem exotischem Mix leicht eingängig und geht runter wie Wasser! Doch leider ist der Boden schnell erreicht und der Spassfaktor von begrenzter Dauer. ABER, da wir hier von einer E.P. reden, geht das klar. Sie macht aufjedenfall Lust auf mehr und bekommt somit 7 von 10 Punkten auf der Iason - Skala
