last friday, jay-z attended the new york nicks v new jersey nets game in a pair of maison martin margiela line 22 hi top chain sneakers. i thought the bits surrounding the laces looked unusual. upon closer inspection, it's actually a metal chain running through the circumference of the eyelets. unusual, but i thought it's pretty cool. and i'm glad jay-z kept everything else toned down, so the statement shoes worked really well with the entire look.

puma 917 "houston street" sneakers / asos.comit was only about 2 weeks back that i was lamenting that some of the fall winter 2010 collections weren't in stores yet. and yesterday i received a flurry of mails stating that the mid season sales are about to commence. harrods and liberty are both having 10-15% discount days this week, and online retailer asos.com also started their mid season sales with up to 50% off.
and so i clicked on the shoe that was on my wishlist, and low and behold it was 40% off! ok the puma "917 houston street" sneakers weren't too expensive to begin with, but with prices now reduced to £24 it is rude not to. they threw in free shipping as well, so what excuse have i got? it's fun, it's young, it's sturdy, i'm sure there's places i can wear it to.

since it's the mid season sales, it's rude not to check out other stuff as well. i spotted the adidas "BW Army Mid A.039 Trainers". and before we go "oh no they didn't!", margiela's sneakers were reworked and based on the german military sneakers anyway. so it seems like adidas did the same by modelling their shoes after the same army.
honestly, i think margiela's versions are much more desirable, but adidas' versions is now reduced in the sale to... £36. martin margiela's lambskin sneakers retail for £290.
i'm in favour of all or nothing, so i didn't get the adidas sneakers. now i'm waiting for an excuse to pick up the margiela sneakers...

dear asos, i see what you did there. even the number "11" remained unchanged! maison martin margiela allocates a number to each of their lines: menswear being number "10", womenswear "6", shoes "22", and accessories "11". hence the "11" on margiela's ring. i wonder what is the story behind asos's "11" ring.
