Pierre Hardy "Bag D"

i featured pierre hardy's "bag d" about a month ago, and i knew i had to get it. i love the bag, i took the bag out last weekend and just love everything about it. rather than hand toting it, which doesn't feel right with my proportions, i used the shoulder strap and it worked really well. i'll most definitely pack this for my travels next month too.

if you are keen, pierre hardy's "bag d" is available online here.

Pierre Hardy Spring Summer 2011

i'm having a tote bags frame of mind lately. after yesterday's leather bag in chestnut hue, today i am loving pierre hardy's "Bag D". the bag comes in hardy's signature 3d cube print on the coated fabric, with black leather handles and shoulder strap:

really loving the shoulder strap which is always a plus, and the gold snap link is a much welcomed feature on an otherwise open top bag. and especially loving that there isn't a hard base, so the bag will sag naturally and reduce side width, which is a big plus for me.

so far so good, loving all the features, the 3d print is certainly eye catching. what would go really well with the bag? the matching ipad sleeve of course:

so dear mr jobs, please release ipad v2 as soon as possible, so that gives me the excuse to get this ipad sleeve too. the tote bag and ipad sleeve will soon be / are available online here.

2010 in review: Shoes...

new year, new beginnings. i believe in looking back at the year that has passed, perhaps seeing things in new perspective and setting new sights/targets for the new year. rather scarily, i've somehow acquired 23 pairs of shoes in 2009. at the beginning of 2010 i told myself this had to stop, and i should buy less, buy better.

how did i fare for 2010, here's a little summary:

the last pair of shoes i bought, the cheapest pair amongst all and the most frivolous: my h&m red suede slip ons.

the only pair of black shoes i bought all year: the northampton made joe casely-hayford for john lewis "mentor" oxford shoes. i can't wait to wear this to work. i have a little superstition: always a new pair of shoes for the first day back at work in the new year. the gorgeous shoes are also available online here.

the shearling lined christophe lemaire brown zipped boots. especially happy since mr lemaire himself noted in a recent interview that these are his favourites too. keeps my feet warm and toasty. the shoes are also available online here.

if i can have a personal favourite amongst all my shoes, it's the above rhinestones embellished christian louboutin trainers. yes, not for everyday wear but it will definitely cheer me up when i need a little lift. also available online here.

in a moment of madness, i bought the puma retro/cartoon sneakers. i thought it would be great for holidays, and at £20 how could i say no.

despite having lots of shoes, i still love the comfort and laid back style of converse shoes. loving the fall winter 2010 missoni x converse series. style and comfort can indeed go hand in hand.

the "greenest" pair of shoes i have: timberland "earthkeepers" boat shoes. made entirely from ecological, friendly and sustainable materials. great summer shoes.

the most lightweight and comfortable pair of shoes i bought in 2010: the dark brown lamb skin lace ups from hermes. amazingly sleek. seeing the orange soles, my colleague actually came up to me and asked "are you wearing hermes shoes?"

ahhhh.

the second pair of hermes shoes i bought this year, was the above kangeroo skin nude colored lace ups. still in the box in a pristine condition, i look forward to wearing them on a suitable occasion.

one of my personal favourites: mr hare "capote". the embellished christian louboutin sneakers was my favourite this year, "capote" is a close second. oh love.

the blue suede pierre hardy desert boots. i have a thing for suede shoes, can you tell?

my first ever pair of christian louboutin shoes: the cream canvas "rantus" trainers. unfortunately i seem to have bought a size too small, feet will hurt if i stay out too long.

zara side zipped suede boots. i wore these on several 'dressed down fridays' at work. really like them.

missoni x converse from the first collaboration series. i actually got recognised by a reader (hey robin!) who saw the shoes on the blog, how amazing is that!

my first purchase in 2010: the brown suede lace ups from louis vuitton.

15 pairs of shoes i acquired in 2010, a marked improvement as compared to 2009. 2011's motto: buy less buy better. happy shoesday!

Opening Ceremony Desert Boots | Pierre Hardy Sneakers

it was a fun filled weekend in paris. besides dabbling in a spot of retail therapy, i also visited the showroom of studiohomme.com. describing the experience as a kid in a candy store is very much of an understatement. i took quite a few pics, but first up let's look at a few of my favourite shoes.

the opening ceremony desert boots in green tweed was one of my favourites. i love shoes with slim and streamlined soles, it gives a very sleek and neat appearance. love everything about it, including the surprisingly "not-too-expensive" price tag.

i love my sneakers, and this pair of pierre hardy "cube" canvas sneakers is an enduring classic.

there were also two other pairs of shoes that i really really like. they are so new, they've not made it to the online store yet. i'll do a feature when i see them up on site, but trust me those will not last long...

The half year in review

six months have passed us by, let's take stock of some of the highlights and low points on here. starting with shoes: in 2009, i acquired a rather obscene amount of shoes, 23 pairs in total. i tell myself to really cut down, and cut down i did for 2010. for the first six months, i bought eight pairs, still a lot but a marked improvement from last year:

in january: louis vuitton "uptown richelieu" in brown suede epi and calf leather

i am surprised at my will power, as the next pair pass january was in april: the missoni x converse all stars sneakers.

in may, after obsessing with christian louboutin's shoes for the longest time on here, i bought my first pair: the "rantus" sneakers.

on that very same day where i bought the christian louboutin sneakers, i also bought the suede hand made desert boots from zara.

there was something about the water in may, as i bought my third pair of shoes in that month: the pierre hardy blue suede shoes.

besides the sneakers, it was suede shoes that i bought. so it was no surprise that in june, i bought the pair that i've been lusting for the longest time: mr hare "capote".

continuing may's streak of three pairs of shoes, the trend followed into june, with the addition of another two pairs of hermes shoes. first, the hermes "quoique" made from lambs leather.

and the hermes "quart" made from kangaroo leather.

besides a full time non fashion related job and part time shoes acquisitions, i also found time to visit milan in january for the fall winter 2010 shows. and write i did, i wrote a few blog posts which i still hold dearly:

- "what is luxury": a piece i penned in january after being bombarded with images, campaigns and releases about luxury products. questions i have yet been able to answer.

- "today, was a momentous day in my life": this is a blog, so i should diary significant events in my life. on that faithful day in february, i did the leap and put money where the mouth is. i did my first ever investment in retail companies. four months on, my small portfolio made an unrealised gain of 30%.

- in march, i wrote what could be considered a "suicide piece" for the blog. if there's a difference between blogs and webzines/magazines, it's honesty. and i think my honesty ruffled some feathers in a bad way.

- in may, i did the first ever interview series with barnabe hardy, the stylist and designer who co-founded balenciaga menswear with nicolas ghesquiere. it is one blog post which i spent the most time prepping, but also the most enjoyable.

- "an ode to versace": my heartfelt semi-letter to the house of versace, my disappointment at their dismay financial results, my undying support for the versace dynasty.

- in june, it was a priviledge to preview the goyard book, which suzy menkes from the IHT called "the bible of luxury". i was very lucky to also meet an artisan from paris who demonstrated how the pieces were painted/customised.

it has been an amazing six months. thank you for the journey, and here's to another six more.
