Last Night's Party: All Star Game Edition

MaxRussell

Here's photo of Russell Simmons and Maxwell in one of the skyboxes at the All Star game and it pretty much sums up the scene in the suite level last night at Red Bull Arena: moneyed people much more famous than you or I with Blackberries and wine glasses at the ready. Oh and models. Lots of models.

I ran through the suite level at half time to chat with an acquaintance who is baller enough to get invited up there and in the 10 minutes I spent among the beautiful people I clocked Maxwell, Simmons, Tyson Beckford (a trifecta of 1990's black starpower), Ethan Hawke, Gerard Butler, Kelly Ripa and Ed Westwick off of Gossip Girl. And again, models. LOTS of models. Leggy, improbably beautiful models. It was like a casting call for America's Next Top...you know.

I missed the after parties though last night as I didn't get back into the city from the stadium until 1:45am. So I missed the official afterparty at the Highline Ballroom and skipped out on the crew that was heading to 1 Oak. And they sure as s*** weren't going to let me in to Tenjune so I called it a night after a long 5 days of practices, parties and photo ops.

So the celeb-spotted for me ended there. I'm slippin', I know. But if you guys see any photos or videos out there of famous-types from last night though drop me an email. Need my celebrity glory-seeking fix.

Red Bull Arena Gets a Man Cave

I love me some Red Bull Arena, I really do. No one tops it for the in-game experience. But having just spent a week nursing at the warm, tricked-out teat of LIVESTRONG Sporting Park I now notice that there is a lot of unused space at RBA. Or enough of it to build a Man Cave of DIY tv at least.

Also, Teddy Schneider is tiny. I honestly think that him, Dane Richards and Luke Rodgers bring down the team height average by 6 inches.

Long Live LIVESTRONG Sporting Park

So I spent a good part of yesterday at the new park in Kansas City and the place is a palace. So in the interest of sacking up and stating that I was wrong, wrong, wrong I hereby rescind my previous statement re: LIVESTRONG's place in my personal SSS pecking order. For me this place is in a dead heat with RBA for the number one spot. Can't wait to see what it's like tonight with a crowd inside.

Titi Talks American Fans in Dirty Red Bull Arena

Two things tell you that this interview was filmed in pre-season. The first is that the pitch at Red Bull Arena looks like it is ready for tractor pull. The second is that, following the "incident" in the San Jose game last week, there is NO WAY his answer about his relationship with the fans would be so bland.

Red Bull Arena Hype Video

For no reason other than the fact that it's pretty.

Thierry Henry in New York: A Sky Sports Special Event

Leave it to Sky Sports --a news outlet that is readily available in the U.K., but something of a fringe network in the U.S.-- to give us the deep-dive on Thierry Henry's life in NYC. It's kind of a shame because something like this could really help sell him, RBNY and MLS stateside.

But maybe that's not the point. Maybe this is one of those things that you do to help improve your club's status as world-renowned, international players....like hiring Eric Cantona for some old position or other.

Either way TiTi is dope and this 4-part, 45+ minute expose* is as well. We get to go to TiTi's SoHo rooftop, find out that Juan Agudelo has no idea who 2 Live Crew are and sit in Holland Tunnel traffic on the way to Red Bull Arena on match day. Take it in y'all.

Parts 2 + 3 + 4

*It's probably not a proper "expose" as I don't think there is anything unseemly about it. But "expose" sounds far sexier and just as Access Hollywood as "exclusive" does.

What Soccer Specific Stadiums Do in the Off-Season

While the players are away, the stadiums play. This is pretty dope...almost makes me wish I was physically fit enough to get strapped in and shoot off to Stratton or someplace for the weekend. Sadly, with my love of BBQ & Chinese food being what it is the only thing I would be good for is keeping the fireplace going and mixing the drinks because weebles don't ride well.

RBNY Make Like Jamaican MC, Shout "Rewind!"

Being that tonight's match is "the biggest game in team history" it's as good a time as any to look back on the regular season. So here's a mixtape. Knock yourselves out and reminisce about a season that isn't even over yet; this is what happens when the ADD generation finally grows up and get jobs in new media.
